Is Your Internet Marketing Duff or is it Working?

by Russell Marsh

Anyone trying to make a living with Internet marketing has at least three things against them: They are working on their own, they are being bombarded with new products all the time, and they will find it very tempting to jump from one money making plan to another. How does one ever succeed online?

Self-Discipline

If you are to work from home it is going to take some serious discipline if you are to make your business a success. You have to decide when to work. You have to make sure you don’t get lazy and waste a morning or an afternoon here and there. Always be determined to get up away from the TV and do something constructive for your business.

You are totally on your own. Keep the discipline up and make sure you schedule your time effectively. This is going to be vital to your business.

Internet Marketers sign up on people’s list. It’s what we do. We want to know if anybody out there has discovered something that can help us. Make a list of only the vital lists you want to be on. Periodically change your email address and only update those vital lists and your contact list. Why spend two hours a day wading through all those emails and deleting them when you can be much more productive?

Signing up for two or three e-mail lists should be enough. Limit it to the experts you really want to hear from. Or better yet, subscribe to their RSS feeds.

It also takes self-discipline to not purchase every new product that comes out with big promises of making you big money or simplifying your life. The basic rule to follow is if it doesn’t help you in the area you have chosen to focus in, or if you already have more than enough, then pass it by.

If the product is something that will help streamline your business, you might want to consider it. Does it cut down on the amount of work you have to do? Does it include leveraging your time by giving work out to other people? It might be worth the investment.

Still beware of the glowing sales-copy though. These people are very good at it. Make sure you NEED a product before you buy it. Would you buy a new screwdriver if you already had one that works ok? This is for business not fun.

Constantly Focus on Your Tasks

Which leads to the next point, stay on focus. It is so incredibly easy to jump from one thing to another. First, you need to have a business plan. Second, you need to stick with that plan.

If you are doing something and blatantly it’s not going to work out, after suitable effort and application, then learn from your experience and move on to something else. It’s very important not to ditch something just because some all new and shiny program is suddenly thrust upon you. You have to be sure that what you’re working on is a dud before moving on, you don’t want to become a serial business changer.

Working from home is very exciting at first but like most things it can become routine and certain tasks become humdrum. It’s a good idea to network with other home business owners from time to time and maybe change the routine around some after a period. Don’t become bored with your business.

Your business plan is central to your success so never mess about with when you’re tired and feeling a little down. You need to regain your focus when this happens so take a break and re-evaluate your plan when you are fresh and focused. Your business plan may be a good one and could just possibly need a little tweak or two.
